The District Water and Sanitation Coordination Committee Of Ntoroko District have decried of the limited water coverage and sanitation and hygiene facilities in the District.

During a joint monitoring exercise that was supported by NRDI with funding from GIZ recently, the District Community Development Officer (DCDO) Ms Koburunga Evelyn said that the percentages of water coverage and sanitation facilities in the District are alarming.

“If we are to be honest, our latrine coverage in the District can be estimated to be at 10% and that of water coverage can be at 20%,” she said.

She added that residents move long distances to access safe water points which is one of the big challenges in the District. She thus appealed to NGOs and the Government to intervene.

According to Dr. Bagonza Stephen, the In charge of Veterinary in the District, most slaughter slabs are located in places that have no water and this poses a sanitation and hygiene threat to the residents of those areas.

He thus appealed to the Water user committees to be proactive and advocate and lobby for more points of safe water to avoid diseases.
